Alternately hilarious and touching--and, in the end,
deeply revealing of the strength and purposefulness which underlies
the antic banter of its characters
A group of gossipy southern ladies in a small town beauty parlor where
somebody who is "anybody" comes to have her hair done.
Helped by her eager new assistant, the outspoken wise-cracking owner
dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town's rich curmudgeon: a
not crazy but claiming to be a person in a bad mood for years; an
eccentric millionaire who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local
social leader who believes her daughter has to be the prettiest girl
in town. Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but
humorously revealing verbal collisions. The sudden realization of
their mortality draws on the underlying strength of the group.
The characters have a special quality to make them truly touching,
funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad. |
